The City of Woodinville is planning improvements along State Route (SR) 202 to enhance traffic flow and create a welcoming gateway into the city. The project will widen SR 202 from five lanes to eight lanes between NE 175th Street and NE 177th Place (Little Bear Creek Parkway) and replace the existing rail trestle with a new pedestrian bridge.

These improvements will help reduce traffic congestion in the downtown corridor, improve safety for all users, and enhance access to local businesses and destinations.

Key benefits

  • New Pedestrian Bridge: The project will include a new pedestrian bridge over SR 202, becoming part of the 42-mile-long Eastrail Regional Trail.
  • Improve Connectivity: The project will improve a critical connection into the city and create a welcoming gateway into Woodinville.
  • Reduce Congestion: Widening SR 202 will ease traffic congestion and improve the overall flow of vehicles through the downtown corridor.
  • Pollinator Pockets: Each zone along the Eastrail Trail, from the Sammamish River Trail to 133rd Avenue, NE, will include landscaped pollinator pockets to support local ecosystems.

Scope of work

  • SR 202 Widening: Expand SR 202 from five lanes to eight between NE 175th Street and NE 177th Place (Little Bear Creek Parkway).
  • Trestle Replacement: Replace the existing rail trestle with a new pedestrian bridge, forming part of the Woodinville section of the Eastrail Regional Trail.
  • Multi-Use Trail Connection: Connect the new bridge to a paved multi-use trail, linking the Sammamish River Trail to the upcoming 133rd Avenue NE connector at Woodinville-Snohomish Road.
  • Pedestrian Improvements: Enhance pedestrian infrastructure along 131st Avenue NE to improve access and connectivity to the new trail.

Community input has played a vital role in shaping the design of the new pedestrian bridge. A public survey helped guide the decision-making process, and the Woodinville City Council approved the final bridge design on February 6, 2024.

The community’s feedback ensures the new pedestrian bridge will not only meet transportation needs but also reflect the broader vision for connectivity, accessibility, and a welcoming gateway into Woodinville.
