A feasibility study conducted by the Northshore Parks & Recreation Service Area (NPRSA) assessed community needs within the service area and identified a Community and Aquatics Center as the top priority for local residents. After careful evaluation, the NPRSA Board of Directors unanimously selected a six-acre site in Downtown Woodinville as the preferred location for the future facility.

  • The project is currently in the property acquisition phase.
  • City of Woodinville has allocated $6 million in local funds to support this effort. The city is applying for grant funding from the King County Parks Levy and pursuing federal grant opportunities to supplement local funding.
  • Once property acquisition is complete, the NPRSA Board of Directors will consider a future levy to fund the construction and ongoing operation of the Community and Aquatics Center.

Key benefits

  • Community Hub: Will serve as North King County's home base for extracurricular activities ranging from recreation and fitness to educational offerings.
  • Public Resiliency Resource: City of Woodinville ownership ensures the facility can support public uses, including severe weather sheltering and resiliency hub operations, and emergency communications infrastructure.
  • Aquatic Education & Safety: In partnership with Northshore School District, the center will provide much-needed pool space for local students and promote aquatic safety and lifelong swimming skills.

Location

NPRSA shares boundaries with the Northshore School District. The proposed property site consists of two separate parcels located in downtown Woodinville, at the heart of the district. The site borders the Eastrail corridor and is conveniently located 0.3 miles from the SR 522/202 interchange and 0.1 mile from the nearest bus stop, providing excellent accessibility for residents throughout the region.

About NPRSA

The NPRSA is a special tax district responsible for managing parks and recreation facilities across the cities of Bothell, Kenmore, and Woodinville, and portions of King and Snohomish counties. More information about NPRSA can be found on their official website.

Next steps

The next phase of the project focuses on acquisition of the identified parcels to confirm their viability for the proposed Community and Aquatics Center.
