The City is planning safety improvements along 136th Ave NE. This project will construct a new 6-ft wide paved walkway on the west side of the street between 186th Street and NE 195th Street. To enhance safety, a buffered separation will be used to separate vehicles to protect children, pedestrians and cyclists.

Community input has been one of several important factors in shaping this project. In February 2026, residents were invited to review three buffer design options through a short survey. Feedback from the survey along with engineering considerations helped inform the selection of a final design. The Standard Curb buffer design was ultimately chosen as the option that best balances community preferences with project goals.
