The City is planning safety improvements along 136th Avenue NE in the summer months of 2026. A new 6-ft wide paved walkway will be constructed on the west side of the street between 186th Street and NE 195th Street.
A buffered separation will be used to separate vehicles to protect children, pedestrians and cyclists and to enhance safety. Community input has been an important factor in shaping this project. In February 2026, residents were invited to review three buffer design options through a short survey (Survey Report Summary). Feedback from the survey along with engineering considerations helped inform the selection of a final design.
The Standard Curb buffer design was ultimately chosen as the option that best balances community preferences with the project goals.
